Favorite Moment On Set:
One night we were filming at a warehouse where they make building bricks and boards out of hemp sawdust. At the start of the evening I walked into a dark room with a cord in hand, looking for a power outlet. I realized I'd have to move some stuff to get at one, so I put the cord down on a handy plastic barrel and an instant later there was a hollow PLUNK and the cord had entirely vanished - consumed by an invisible opening in the barrel and consigned to a briny doom in three feet of unidentifiable oily industrial chemical. That was the same evening Donny managed by a mysterious alchemy to transform cottage cheese, rice, and yogurt into something truly horrific to feed our actors, and Helena and Matt spent a few entertaining minutes singing bass and trumpet riffs. It was freezing cold and filthy with one heater blowing lukewarm wind in odd fits and starts, and Helena brought tears to our eyes in a heartfelt scene that blew us all away. That was a fun evening.
Anything Else:
My obsession is myth - the practical transference of knowledge and experience through entertainment. Good composition of elements, visual or narrative, gives me chills, whether in a novel or a film. I get excited when a real truth is made more real by an imaginary world. I try to do circus, acrobatics and juggling, but the only thing I'm much good at is fire.
